We Were Brought In on a Project for Rihanna's Met Gala After Party (REALLY!)

It's that time of year again: Cherry blossoms have returned to the east coast, Brooklynites are shedding their long puffy coats for denim jackets, and the Met Gala is once again upon us. This year, the annual fête of fashion and fabulousness celebrated the work of the impossible-to-categorize Comme des Garçons designer, Rei Kawakubo.

So when visionary event producer Ron Hansford invited DBC to create the environmental design for Rihanna's Met Gala after party at 1 OAK, we were thrilled to accept. This exclusive party was primarily to be a toast to Kawakubo's work, and Ron had a vision for how to incorporate her eclectic influence on a grand scale.

Inspired by the spots used in many of Kawakubo's designs, we created large-scale black and white dot arrangements for vinyl wall decals. With brilliant art direction from Ron, our team completely transformed the club's exterior and interior the weekend before the gala. We created a number of different layouts and mocked up our designs in 3D to give the club a preview of what the final look would be. This job required a very quick turnaround, but between a couple of late nights in the studio and excellent collaboration with the event producer, we were able to pull off a stunning transformation.
